Anderson Ranch Arts Center Residency

At ARAC, I explored Black Mobility through portraiture and collage. Using imagery from Aspen’s and Snowmass Village’s magazines and flyers, I created work that reflected the culture and myself through the lens of luxury in a mountain town. Paintings referenced my family and I in luxurious million-dollar properties, mountain views, or wearing expensive clothes or jewelry. Black Mobility in this body of work is explored through the symbolism of mountains, furs, and the positioning of Black figures in a space where the public wouldn’t normally imagine them to exist.

This work accompanies a series titled Anywhere But Here. Anywhere But Here investigates the mental state of being elsewhere but grounded in reality. The work explores faith within the landscape, cityscapes, and Black Mobility. The themes expressed include isolation, contemplation, daily life experiences, travel, and self-reflection.
